What is EARS? You may ask. It actually stands for “Europe-Asia Roundtable Sessions”, and it is this amazing platform that brings creative industry professionals and practitioners together in Helsinki! The idea is to discover culture, business opportunities, share best practices and be inspired by other like-minded people in the industries, and their ideas.
So EARS on Helsinki took place three weeks ago, in September 4-7 2014. I had the HUGE privilege of attending EARS on media pass, as a Singaporean journalist! I really, really loved the event, and learnt much about the latest trends on music, design, performing arts and the media! It was really nice to have lunch with fellow distinguished Singaporean Tang Fu Kuen as well! I love the fact that EARS is a combination of conference and cultural activities.
Here’s my media pass. 🙂
One of the really cool talks at EARS on Thursday.
The amazing EARS team!! 🙂 I love how vibrant and enthusiastic everyone is.
Amazing videographer Juliana Kontinen.
We also had the chance to visit the Helsinki Design Week exhibitions, at the Abattoir. It was nothing short of innovative and amazing. We got to see some of the most eco-friendly, sustainable designs made in Finland, by Finns and the Nordic nations.
It’s time for coffee! And I found this angel Paulig coffee packet to be soooo cute!
Okay now I’m going to tell you all about this amazing Finnish brand I’d discovered at the Helsinki Design Week. It’s called Hile Finland, and the coffee scoop design is simply ingenious:
It’s basically like a scoop and a peg at the same time! How amazing is that! Everytime I make coffee in Suomi, I always had to find the scoop and a rubber band separately. With this, you will never need to worry about losing your scoop (or rubber bands) ever again. It’s ingenious design–despite being so simple!!!
You can buy it here at Hile’s webshop!!
Oh they had this really cool museum-like exhibition in this shelter, made entirely by cart-boxes. Way cool!
Innovative table design, eh!
I found this bag of prunes on the table. They tasted really good!
See how sturdy the house is, built entirely out of cart-boxes?
Oh at the conference we took some photos of really cool Finnish fashion designers as well. Love their designs!
We also went to the museum for rounds of networking and drinks.
A really sophisticated lift door, I must say.
Speech by the director of Helsinki Festival. Love his hairstyle.
Tommi Toija is a super talented sculptor by the way.
I thoroughly enjoyed the event. You should come to Finland for EARS 2015! Be sure to mark the date on your calendar!
Meanwhile, be sure to like EARS on facebook! Cover photo credits to Tuulia Kolehmainen; that is me in the pink dress by the way! 🙂
